An innovative, Indigenous-led district breathes new life into an ancestral village site

Set on the Tsleil-Waututh Nation’s ancestral lands, Statlew District is a 45-acre mixed-use community that creates a new model for contemporary living, working, playing and learning on Vancouver’s North Shore.
I created the logo and branding, in collaboration with celebrated First Nations artist Ocean Hyland, to establish the district as an agent of change, constantly creating new ways of life. The name Statlew translates to little creek, the centre of traditional life and the thread that weaves through the new mixed use masterplan.
The brand pays homage to the past and history of the lands and people while facing forward to an ever changing and exciting future.
